Reconstruction of pavement and traffic controls between Salty Ridge Road and Nickerson State Park as of June, 2005. This is the crossing of Mitchell Road, a minor road. The bollards in this new section are reflectorized (red strips near top) so they are more easily seen at night by bicyclists who use a headlight -- though many do not. The brick sections are rumble strips to warn bicyclists of the intersection, but brick is not very stable as a paving material, and any such warning ought to be farther from the intersection, as in an earlier slide showing older construction (!), so bicyclists have enough braking distance to stop -- and are warned in time to avoid the bollard.
